National Aquarium is pleased to announce the hiring of Larry Noto as Director of Marketing & Communications and Katie Turner as Director of Creative Services.
As Director of Marketing and Communications, Noto will manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization’s advertising and promotions, media relations, digital marketing, social media and creative services communications teams. He will participate in the development of the organizational strategic direction pertaining to image, positioning and messaging for both of the National Aquarium venues and for the institution overall. In addition, he will ensure integrated marketing organization-wide and ROI accountability for all marketing initiatives.
Noto comes to the Aquarium with over 17 years of experiences in marketing, public relations and media. He joins the organization from Harbor Magic Hotels where he was the Director of Marketing, a position he held since 2003. During that time, he led all marketing and public relations efforts for the boutique hotel group and its umbrella brand and served on the executive leadership team. Prior to that, Noto led public relations efforts to increase Baltimore’s exposure in regional, national and international media as the Marketing and Travel Media Manager for Visit Baltimore. His experiences at both organizations helped Noto secure a weekly tourism and events segment on WBAL 1090AM, “Where to Go with Noto” from 2009-2011. Earlier in his career, Noto worked for Baltimore-based Stanton Communications, Inc. coordinating local and national media relations efforts for clients; WMAR-TV’s “Rodricks for Breakfast” as a producer and on-air contributor; and with HBO as an intern in the Internal Communications Department, writing for the cable network’s internal magazine.
Noto earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Communications from Loyola University. He is currently a public relations committee member of the Historic Hotels of America, a member of the Visit Baltimore GLBT/Diversity Marketing Committee and a board member for Sail Baltimore. In past years, he has served on committees and boards for the Star Spangled Sailabration, Public Relations Society of America Travel & Tourism Section, and Baltimore’s Grand Prix Special Events Committee. Noto currently resides in Abingdon, Maryland.
As Director of Creative Services, Turner will direct the creative process for all internal and external communications, establish design direction, manage and evoke brand guidelines, manage collaborative projects and guide the “corporate voice”. Turner will manage a team of the Aquarium’s writers, designers and outside vendors.
Turner joins the Aquarium from the American Red Cross where she served as Marketing and Communications Manager for the Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region from 2006-2011, and most recently, as Director of Marketing for the Heritage Blood Services Division. During her time with American Red Cross, she was responsible for the development of marketing materials, maintaining brand integrity and positioning of the American Red Cross. She also launched the “Red Cross Rewards” donor loyalty program for Red Cell and Platelet donors, the first program of its kind in the American Red Cross system. The system is currently being considered as a model for a nationwide donor loyalty program for FY13. Prior to the American Red Cross, Turner worked for academic and professional medical publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins in the medical research division from 2003-2006.
In addition to her experience, Turner holds numerous professional memberships such as American Marketing Association, Association of Donor Recruitment Professionals, and Baltimore Public Relations Council.
Turner earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Economics from Towson University. She earned her Masters in English Language and Literature from University of Maryland, College Park. She currently resides in Ellicott City, Maryland.
Noto and Turner will both report to Steven Schindler, National Aquarium VP/CMO.
