A Blue Vision and a March for the Ocean
Journalist, author and ocean activist David Helvarg will share insights from decades of writing about our ocean planet. An accomplished diver and avid bodysurfer, he will share some of the trauma and wonder he has experienced in and on the ocean. He has startling stories to tell about the present state of our seas, thanks to his reporting on everything from coral bleaching across the globe, a military coup in Fiji and suspect fishing vessels off Iraq, to hurricanes, oil spills and penguins.
David founded the Blue Frontier Campaign, an ocean conservation and policy group, and has channeled his love for the sea into organizing a "blue wave" of action toward ocean solutions. His latest mission: working with more than 80 partner organizations to mobilize broad and diverse constituencies to #MarchForTheOcean on Saturday, June 9, the weekend of World Oceans Day.
Following his talk, Mr. Helvarg will sign copies of his memoir, "Saved by the Sea," and inspirational book, "50 Ways to Save the Ocean."
