Life Lessons from Chasing Coral
Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us as we welcome Zack Rago, one of the co-stars of "Chasing Coral," an award-winning documentary that visualizes the plight of coral reefs in the age of climate change and reveals a story hidden beneath the waves. Zack's passion for coral reefs began in the Hawaiian Islands where he spent his childhood summers under the waves of the Pacific. His infatuation with coral led to a position in the marine aquarium industry before bringing his passion to Teens4Oceans and View Into The Blue. He holds a degree in evolutionary biology and ecology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. As a talented reef aquarist and long-time scuba diver, he is dedicated to communicating the story of coral through science and art.
Zack's talk coincides with the first Youth Climate Action Network (UCAN) conference taking place at the National Aquarium. UCAN empowers teens, particularly those from communities most affected by impacts of climate change, to connect with peers in other cities to discuss environmental, social and economic challenges, and to take action to create better places to live, work and play. UCAN participants from Baltimore, Chicago, Orlando, Powhattan, Kansas, and Pago Pago, American Samoa, will attend the reception and lecture.
