Looking back over 2004 is both inspiring and energizing.
Inspiring because we cannot help but reflect on the incredible number of individuals – board, donors, staff, volunteers, members, elected officials, and a supportive community – who made the year a success.
Energizing because it is amazing to see how much has been accomplished in 12 short months!
Looking Forward
In 2004, even with each of the Aquarium departments focused on daily challenges and routines, we found ourselves looking forward – anticipating the opening of our expansion and waterfront park, laying plans for a new animal care center, preparing for an upcoming five-year accreditation visit by our professional organization, and continuing to assemble an intriguing collection of animals for the soon-to-be-opened Australian exhibit.
It is also true that 2004 was a year in which we focused on initiatives that are forward looking – the board explored new governance concepts for our expanding campuses, senior management established challenging milestones to help us reach our 2020 Vision, and staff developed a bold program master plan that concentrates our resources on aquatic stewardship and behavior change with global impact.
The challenges are greater than ever – 2004’s ocean reports paint a troubling picture of the state of the world’s water and aquatic life. With your continued support, we look forward to making a difference, to being an agent for change, and to providing uncompromising leadership in environmental education and action.
