2014 Recap: New Additions

It’s been a year full of new faces for the National Aquarium. Here’s a look back at the additions we welcomed to the Aquarium family this year:

On Valentine’s Day, a baby Australian snapping turtle was born (and seven more shortly thereafter).

And just this past October, we said hello to four big-headed Amazon River turtle hatchlings—believed to be the first time these turtles were bred in a North American collection.

Over the summer, we welcomed a baby Hosmer’s skink to our Australia exhibit.

In addition, two baby Mertens’ water monitors were born in June and August, after an incredible 200+ days of incubation!
