Rainforests
When you consider Australia’s terrestrial environments, the first scene that probably comes to mind is the dry Outback. Many would be surprised to learn of Australia’s many lush rainforests, which stretch from Queensland to Tasmania!
Aussie rainforests are home to hundreds of endemic species of plants, birds and amphibians. Just last year, scientists discovered three new species atop the Melville Range, one of Australia’s most isolated rain forests.

Coral Reefs
Australia is home to one of the world’s most treasured coral reef ecosystems, the Great Barrier Reef (GBR)!
The GBR is home to over 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and 4,000 different kinds of mollusk.
Inscribed as a World Heritage Site in the early 1980s, the GBR is the largest structure made by living organisms on the planet—it can even be seen from space!
