Special needs guests can avoid the crowd by visiting on the first Saturday or first Sunday of the month. Our First Saturdays and First Sundays program allows visitors with special needs and their guests to enter 30 minutes before the Aquarium opens to the general public.

Every year on June 8, organizations around the world join together to observe World Oceans Day and draw attention to the critical need for change. At the National Aquarium, we recognize the importance of this event and believe ocean health starts at home. World Oceans Day kicks off Beyond the Boardwalk, a month-long series of events, and marks an international event celebrating our ocean planet.

Oceans of Inspiration

Ages: 18 and up

Join Aquarium team members for a casual discussion about our programs and services. Learn first-hand about our excellence in animal care and leadership in educational and conservation initiatives. Session lasts one hour.

Summer edition of Tots and Tales celebrating ocean diversity and the 50th anniversary of Dr. Seuss' One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Listen and learn about the different animals that live in oceans near and far. Program starts at 10 a.m. with a Dr. Seuss story reading, followed by an animal encounter and children's music.

Character Days: Meet Diego!

Saturday, June 26, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Sunday, June 27, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Meet a hit Nickelodeon TV star, Diego! Bring your camera and take a photo with Diego inside the Aquarium. Help celebrate the launch of Dora & Diego’s 4-D Adventure: Catch That Robot Butterfly, playing in the Aquarium’s 4-D Immersion Theater. Plan your visit and be sure to arrive early for the special appearance by Diego. Last photo will be taken at 2 p.m. To guarantee your entry time, purchase tickets in advance.

If you come on Saturday, June 26: Take part in the Summer Fun Festival, a special part of Beyond the Boardwalk. Games, activities, music, and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. »Learn more.
