Choose Sustainable Seafood

People are eating more seafood than ever, and the ocean and its fish are being pushed to the limit. According to the United Nations, approximately two-thirds of ocean species are overfished, and many types of fish farming are highly damaging to coastal ecosystems. Choose sustainable seafood, which is seafood from either fished or farmed sources that can maintain or increase production in the future and don't harm the surrounding environment. Reduce Waste

Two of the most common pieces of trash that find their way into the ocean are plastic beverage bottles and plastic bags. Carry water in a reusable container rather than buying bottled water—this saves money over time, too! And bring along a reusable shopping bag every time you go to the store. Just by making these two changes, you can help reduce the amount of plastic debris that ends up in the ocean, sickening marine animals.

Conserve Resources

Reducing your electricity usage benefits both the environment and your wallet. Save electricity by turning off lights when you leave a room and unplug appliances when not in use. Replace light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs; this easy switch will save you money and protect the environment. And always make sure to recycle the CFLs properly!
