A Blue View: Teens Taking Action

10 Ways to Go Green At Home

  1. Turn off your computer at night.
  2. Wash your laundry in cold water instead of hot. Most of the energy to run a washing machine goes toward heating the water.
  3. Make the switch to fluorescent lightbulbs.
  4. Go meat-free at least once per week. (One estimate indicates the meat industry generates nearly one-fifth of man-made greenhouse gas emissions, and more than 1,800 gallons of water go into a single pound of beef.)
  5. Plant an indoor herb garden, easy (and delicious) no matter where you live!
  6. Opt for reusable...grocery bags and water bottles are a great place to start.
  7. Run your dishwasher only when full.
  8. Start a compost bin, and recycle everything you can.
  9. Speaking of recycling, dispose of electronics properly. Electronics contain toxins such as mercury. Some neighborhood hold electronics recycling days, and stores like Best Buy have recycling programs for e-waste.
  10. Open your mind do doing things in a more environmentally responsible way. Educated consumers make better choices for themselves and the planet.
