The Amazon River basin supports some of the most diverse life on the planet. It is home to piranha, freshwater stingrays, tropical tetras, angelfish, an emerald tree boa, an electric eel, and silver arowana.

  • Blue Poison Dart Frog

    These little frogs are easily recognized by their blue color, which is generally darker on the limbs and belly and overlaid with black spots or patches, especially on the head and back.

  • Electric Eel

    Electrophorus electricus—everything about this eel’s scientific name says high voltage! Of the fishes able to generate an electrical discharge, electric eels are by far the champions, producing up to 600 volts!

  • Emerald Tree Boa

    Emerald tree boas are an exquisite green color. Many have striking white markings occurring along the dorsal midline, although some individuals lack them. Juveniles range from yellow to orange or red.

    Adult arowana are silvery, while juveniles have a blue glint. They have very large scales, and a huge oblique mouth.
