The selected candidate will serve as an Aquarium ambassador supporting the Community Affairs staff. As a support staff person, this individual will assist in the areas of special events and promotion of community programs all in an effort to strengthen the Aquarium's connection with the Maryland community. Candidate should be creative, energetic, organized, and possess strong writing skills; candidate should also be self-motivated, have the ability to work independently, and take initiative on projects.
Essential Functions
- Assist in department development of ideas for programming to generate community awareness of the Aquarium's educational and cultural programs
- Attend community events to promote Aquarium programs and events
- Assist with planning and facilitation of special events
- Respond to community inquiries through telephone and/or written correspondence
- Track external requests for Aquarium donations and provides accurate tracking and monthly reporting of donations
- Assist with the design of collateral for community meetings, conferences, and both internal and external events
- Provide database management support, including data entry and generating reports
- Handle mass mailings to community leaders and special groups
- Provide correspondence with the local community about community programs and events
- Assist with drafting articles for newsletters.
Requirements
- Must be an undergraduate enrolled in an accredited college pursuing a degree in English, sociology, marketing, public relations, communications, urban development, business, or a related field.
- Juniors or seniors are preferred.
- Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term; occasional evenings and weekends required.
- A working knowledge of Excel and Word, and PowerPoint preferred; basic computer skills required.
- Any of the following qualifications would be helpful: strong communicator, computer skills, creative thinking, strong writer, familiar with the Baltimore/Maryland community, interested in or familiar with Maryland.
