Development Internship

Development interns assist the Aquarium Development and Membership departments with daily activities. As a support staff person, this individual will assist in the areas of annual programs, corporate memberships, individual memberships, major gifts, corporations and foundations, and development services. Candidate should be creative, energetic, organized, and possess strong writing skills, as well as knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with the fulfillment and promotion of Aquarium memberships
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of promotions and special events
  • Conduct research, gather information on similar institutions, companies, individuals, and foundations, or speakers for the Aquarium lecture series
  • Assist grant writers with researching foundations, calling funders to obtain grant application guidelines and funding priorities, as well as prioritizing grant prospects
  • Coordinate and assemble mailings for corporate membership promotional materials
  • Create customer satisfaction surveys for corporate and individual memberships
  • Provide database management support including database entry
  • Respond to corporate and individual member inquiries through telephone and/or written correspondence
  • Perform special projects to be determined by the development and membership staff and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college, pursuing a degree in marketing, communication, public relations, development, or a related field
  • Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term.

  • November 1 to intern during the winter or spring terms
  • March 1 to intern during the summer term
  • May 1 to intern during the fall term
