Education Internship

Education interns assist the Visitor Experience and Education staff in the creation, revision, and instruction of school programs, outreach programs, visitor programs, and other education programs. The selected candidate will work with an enthusiastic team of educators and a variety of audiences, and will learn different teaching methods in different settings.

Essential Functions

  • Create, revise, and instruct formal onsite and outreach programs, both classroom and auditorium style
  • Engage the Aquarium’s visitors at exhibits and interpretational carts, and deliver presentations
  • Work with the Aquarium’s high school work-based learning program, Aquarium on Wheels
  • Participate in Immersion Tour programming, including sleepovers and other tours
  • Assist with administrative work as needed
  • Develop an educational project for use in the department
  • Complete special projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college, pursuing a degree in education, science, or a related field
  • Must be interested in informal education, public speaking, and customer service
  • Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term.

Application Deadlines

  • November 1 to intern during the winter or spring terms
  • March 1 to intern during the summer term
  • May 1 to intern during the fall term

All applicants will be notified approximately four to six weeks after the deadline.
