Herpetology

Herpetology interns assist the Aquarium herpetology staff with daily care of the Aquarium's reptiles, amphibians, and associated invertebrates.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare diets for and feed the reptiles and amphibians
  • Mist, clean, and otherwise help tend the reptiles and amphibians
  • Change exhibit water and clean filters in order to maintain the highest water quality possible for the animals
  • Assist in the maintenance of the live food cultures (e.g., fruit flies, springtails)
  • Conduct and record animal observations
  • Perform special projects as determined by the herpetology staff
  • Observe medical procedures on collection animals.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college, pursuing a degree in biology, zoology, animal behavior, ecology, environmental science, or a related field
  • Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term
  • Must be comfortable working with frogs, lizards, fish, rodents, crickets, and other terrestrial arthropods.
