Light City Baltimore

From Charm City to Light City

March 28 to April 3, 2016

Baltimore will be brighter and more beautiful than ever this spring with the debut of Light City, the first international large-scale, light, music and innovation festival in the United States. The brainchild of Baltimore innovators, Light City will paint our own Charm City with light while illuminating the world with ideas from the brightest thinkers.

Positioned in the center of it all on piers 3 and 4, the National Aquarium is joining in on the fun. We’re partnering with the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts and local artists to host video projections and interactive light displays on our campus. The festivities continue inside, where guests can enjoy special programming that conveys the wonders of illumination in the aquatic world.

Mark your calendars, and start making plans to join us for this first-of-its-kind—and one-of-a-kind—experience!

What to Expect

Visual Art

Light City will transform Baltimore with world-class light displays and sculptures, video projections on buildings and interactive technologies to create once-in-a-lifetime experiences for families, residents and visitors. Enjoy a 1.5-mile BGE Light Art Walk with 50 attractions, several of which are stationed on our own Aquarium campus.

A video and audio work projected onto the northeast side of our Pier 4 building will explore the power of light using imagery from a variety of films from different eras and genres. Another video, inspired by the discovery and historical documentation of artifacts, will play on the east side of our building on Pier 3.

The grassy area in front of our Pier 3 building will feature an installation titled “Plaza,” a brightly colored arrangement of LED-lighted objects that collectively form a high-energy playground.
