March 26, 2006 - Special Spring Calendar of Events

Spring Forward With the National Aquarium in Baltimore
Celebrate Birds, Discover Native Plants, Gear up for Camp and More

As you prepare to set your clocks forward an hour, mark your calendar with these fun activities, too!

April 22 – Earth Day – Discover what it takes to work at the Aquarium
The National Aquarium in Baltimore’s staff is dedicated to Earth’s most precious resource – water. This Earth Day tour behind the scenes at the Aquarium, find out how clean water helps keep fish healthy, meet an aquarist (person who cares for the Aquarium’s fish) and learn how they celebrate our planet every day.
Ages 14 – 18. Space is limited. Reservations are required; call 410-727-3474 Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. $22 members, $30 non-members.

May 6 – 9 – Bayscaping at Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge
Spend a day – or four – creating new habitat for migratory waterfowl at Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge in Rock Hall, Md. Help the Aquarium’s conservation team install hundreds of native plants and learn which native plants can grow in your yard.
For more information, please contact the Conservation Department at 410-576-3851 or conserve@aqua.org. Due to hazardous work conditions associated with marsh waterfront features, the minimum age for restoration programs is 14 years.

May 13 – International Migratory Bird Day
Celebrate birds with the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The Aquarium will lead public activities on Pier 3, in front of the Aquarium. Visitors will find even more fun activities inside. Events run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Can’t make it to the Aquarium? Call 410-576-1083 to make reservations for a bird watch/walk at either 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. through the wetland adjacent to Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. More than 55% of Maryland’s birds have been spotted in this 10-acre treasure.
The bird walks are free, but reservations are required. Walks last approximately three hours and are cancelled in inclement weather. Children must be at least eight years of age and accompanied by an adult.

Don’t forget about summer camps!
The National Aquarium in Baltimore offers summer camps for children ages 4 – 16. Offerings range from partial day on-site programs to week-long, sleep-away camps on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Pritchard’s Island, South Carolina and the Florida Keys. Visit www.aqua.org for more information.
