A Kemp's ridley sea turtle, released on August 23, 2005, is the third animal whose return to the wild has been tracked through satellite tagging in 2005.
The turtle was released near Assateague Island in Maryland and is expected to follow normal migrational patterns, following the Gulf Stream toward the Gulf of Mexico. A stretch of beach along Mexico’s coast may be the sole nesting site for these endangered turtles.
Kemp's ridley sea turtles are the smallest of the ocean's sea turtles. This turtle was injured in a boat strike in November 2004 and has undergone ongoing rehabilitation for its injuries.
You can follow the animal's path on the Whalenet web site.
