National Aquarium Names Kate Hendrickson as Media Relations Manager

National Aquarium - Kate HendricksonThe National Aquarium is pleased to announce the hiring of Kate Hendrickson as the organization’s new Media Relations Manager.

Hendrickson will manage the day-to-day media relations efforts to promote both the Baltimore and Washington, DC venues and the institution’s education programs, conservation initiatives and partnerships to further advance the organization’s mission to inspire people to enjoy, respect and protect the aquatic world. She will also manage the social media channels including the Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube accounts and the National Aquarium blog, waterlog. She will develop media plans and campaigns to promote the institution’s venues, mission and programs.

Prior to the National Aquarium, Hendrickson was a Social Influence Specialist for Planit, a Baltimore-based PR/advertising agency. During that time, she launched and managed social media channels for clients such as Fila, DuClaw Brewing Company, and Signs By Tomorrow; conducted daily social media brand monitoring and reporting; provided live social media event management, including live-tweeting and Facebook posting during product launches and live-streaming events; and provided support for community building and integrated PR and social content strategies.

Hendrickson spent three years at the Port Discovery Museum, serving as the PR & Marketing Coordinator and then, more recently, as the Pubic Relations & Events Specialist. She developed and distributed press materials; monitored media coverage; coordinated cooperative marketing partnerships with other area attractions and organizations; launched and managed the museum’s Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube accounts; created and coordinated special events and promotions; and supervised the marketing internship program.

Before moving to Baltimore in 2008, Hendrickson freelanced for the Campbell Soup Company, where she offered creative and public affairs services.

Hendrickson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from the University of Miami. She has served as a Volunteer Baltimore Certified Tourism Ambassador since 2009; is a Baltimore Tourism Association member and a Visit Baltimore GLBT Tourism Advisory Committee member.
