“Rock the Boat” with National Aquarium

10/15/2012

The public is invited to “Rock the Boat” with National Aquarium on the USS Constellation to celebrate and raise money for the Chesapeake Bay Initiative (CBI). With a $10 donation at the door, guests will receive a National Aquarium glow in the dark collector’s mug. Since its humble beginnings in 2004, the annual “Rock the Boat” event has grown from a small happy hour to a celebration with over 200 guests. The celebration features sustainable food choices from local restaurants, live music and tours of the historical ship.

Wetlands in the Chesapeake Bay are being lost at an alarming rate as a result of coastal development, rising sea levels, and damage from non-native species. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, an estimated 10,500 acres have been lost in the last 150 years along the middle-eastern portion alone. National Aquarium Chesapeake Bay Initiative helps restore and protect wetland habitats, increasing public awareness of watershed issues and providing watershed stewardship actions for citizen volunteers, youth, and community groups.
