Captain Philip Renaud

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that protects and restores ocean health through scientific research, education and outreach. His Royal Highness, Prince Khaled bin Sultan of Saudi Arabia, is the Foundation’s chairman and benefactor. Through the leadership of retired U.S. Navy Captain Philip G. Renaud over the past 12 years, the Foundation has developed it into a world-class scientific organization dedicated to marine conservation, particularly of coral reef ecosystems. Captain Renaud initiated the Foundation’s ambitious Global Reef Expedition program, a five-year circumnavigation of the globe to map and survey the world’s coral reefs in an effort to reverse their decline. Captain Renaud’s career in oceanography began at the Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in oceanography in 1979, and his distinguished 25-year career with the U.S. Navy took him to all corners of the earth. At the culmination of his naval career, Captain Renaud was the commanding officer of the Naval Oceanographic Office. He is an avid scuba diver, underwater photographer, sailor and skier.
