The National Aquarium, Washington, DC, invites you to bring your little fry (young fish are called fry!) to the Aquarium every first and third Friday of the month at 10:30 a.m. to learn about our wonderful aquatic world.
The National Aquarium, Washington, DC in partnership with NOAA, now features an exciting children’s program with fun science experiments, great crafts and a tour of the aquarium designed for younger audiences.

2013 Tots and Tales Schedule
May 3 - Lobster - The lobster is a relative of crabs – they have large claws to catch their food. There are other interesting things about lobsters to learn about too. Through a story and fun activities, we will discover what it is like to be a lobster.
May 17 - Alligator - One of the largest reptiles in the United States, the alligator is an important animal in his home. We will learn about alligators and why they have those big teeth through our story and activities.
June 7 - World Ocean Day - Today we will learn about the difference between freshwater and the ocean - which is salt water. Through a fun story and science experiments, we will discover the difference.
June 21 - World Ocean Day #2 - What happens to the trash that ends up in the ocean? Do animals eat it? Do animals get trapped in it? Does all of our trash float, or does some of it sink? We will explore the answers to these questions through our story and activities.
July 5 - Sea Anemone - Sea anemones look like plants – but they are really animals who are cousins to jellyfish. Through some interesting activities, we will learn about the anemone and why the clownfish call an anemone home.
July 19 - Pufferfish - Pufferfish are funny looking – especially when they inflate themselves. Why do they do this? In our story time and activities, we will learn more about this interesting fish.
August 2 - Sharks - Do sharks have bones? Do all sharks use teeth to eat? Sharks are interesting fish that are not understood, but they are not as bad as people think! Through some experiments and a story, we will learn more about these interesting fish.
August 16 - Turtles - Sea turtles are interesting animals that live in the ocean. Turtles cannot breath under the water like a fish. What other interesting things can we learn about a sea turtle? Through activities and our story, we will learn more about exciting sea turtles.
September 6 - Seahorses - Are seahorses really fish? They don’t look like a fish! Through a story and some interesting activities, we will learn more about this funny looking fish.
September 20 - Frogs - Frogs are slimy critters. Why are they slimy? Why do they jump? By doing some science activities and crafts, we will learn more about the frogs that call the National Aquarium their home
