The National Aquarium, Washington, DC, invites you to bring your little fry (young fish are called fry!) to the Aquarium every first and third Friday of the month at 10:30 a.m. to learn about our wonderful aquatic world.

The National Aquarium, Washington, DC in partnership with NOAA, now features an exciting children’s program with fun science experiments, great crafts and a tour of the aquarium designed for younger audiences.

2013 Tots and Tales Schedule

January 4 - Sharks - Do sharks have bones? Do all sharks use teeth to eat? Sharks are interesting fish that are not understood, but they are not as bad as people think! Through some experiments and a story, we will learn more about these interesting fish

January 18 - Turtles - Sea turtles are interesting animals that live in the ocean. Turtles cannot breathe under the water like a fish. What other interesting things can we learn about a sea turtle? Through activities and our story, we will learn more about exciting sea turtles.

February 1 - Seahorses - Are seahorses really fish? They don’t look like a fish! Through a story and some interesting activities, we will learn more about this funny looking fish.

February 15 - Frogs - Frogs are slimy critters. Why are they slimy? Why do they jump? By doing some science activities and crafts, we will learn more about the frogs that call the National Aquarium their home.

March 1 - Fish - Are all fish the same? Of course not! As we learn about fish in this session, we will see that fish come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

March 15 - Octopus - An octopus is another funny looking ocean critter. Through a story and some fun activities, we will learn about the octopus and their 8 arms and how they use them to catch their food and move.

April 5 - Earth Day Activities - Today we will learn about trash in the ocean. Should our trash be put into the ocean? How does it get there? What can we do about it? Through some fun activities, we will learn the answers to these questions.

April 19 - Earth Day Activities #2 - Today we will learn about recycling. What are some things we use that can be recycled and used over again? Why is this important for our home – the planet Earth? We’ll have some fun learning about what we can recycle to help save the Earth.
