Certified Divers

Volunteer divers prepare and feed fish, rays, and small sharks in the Atlantic Coral Reef and Wings in the Water exhibits. While working, they give presentations to the public about the animals for which they care.

They also clean and assist with the maintenance of the two exhibits and the dolphin pool.

Requirements
Approximately 10 to 20 divers are selected each winter. Applicants must be:

  • at least 18 years of age and out of high school
  • Advanced Open Water SCUBA certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency
  • at least 30 logged dives
  • and in good health.

Training and Commitment
After successful completion of training sessions and a written test, divers are assigned to a team and commit to working one full day every other week.

Equipment
Divers provide their own wetsuits and masks. The Aquarium will supply:

  • tanks
  • regulators
  • fins
  • weight belts
  • Aquarium uniform
