Living Our Mission in Maryland

Since our doors opened in 1981, the National Aquarium has been a gem in the very heart of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and generations of Maryland families have come to share in the wonders of the undersea world. Our mission, to inspire the conservation of the world's aquatic treasures, has motivated thousands of people to appreciate and protect the delicate habitats that make our city and state so special.

I am immensely proud of the work we do right here in Maryland, from restoring the magnificent wetlands of the Chesapeake Bay to educating local students at the Aquarium, in their classrooms and out in the field. The Aquarium's conservation and education programs, coupled with the many affordable access programs offered to Maryland residents, fulfill our commitment to keep the doors of the National Aquarium open to all Marylanders. We are truly living our mission here in our home city and state—for the benefit of children, families, animals and the environment—as well as protecting the aquatic habitats that make Maryland special to ensure that they remain healthy and thriving for generations to come.
