National Aquarium Celebrates Flag Day and Star Spangled 200 with Flag Raising

CEO John Racanelli joined by Donald R. Hickey and Connie Clark, authors of The Rockets' Red Glare: An Illustrated History of the War of 1812, will raise four flags – the American flag, Maryland flag, City of Baltimore flag, and National Aquarium flag. The American flag will be 15-star/15-stripe flag commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812. Members and guests in attendance for the ceremony will each receive a mini American flag to wave proudly.

National Aquarium has not flown flags on its property for several years, as they were taken down due to construction when Animal Planet Australia: Wild Extremes was being built.

Following the ceremony, Hickey and Clark will join 200 National Aquarium members for a private event in which they will do a reading and book signing. They will be joined by historians and experts from the Maryland Historical Society and Johns Hopkins University.

Also taking place from 4:30-7:30 p.m., the Aquarium has opened their back pier to the public for a Sailabration Picnic to view the tall ships coming into the Inner Harbor.
