SmartCEO Magazine recently recognized the National Aquarium as a leader in corporate wellness during its annual Baltimore Healthiest Company Awards program on September 15. Of this year’s 16 finalists, the Aquarium won the 2016 Healthiest Company Award for companies with 250 to 399 employees. This is the second consecutive year the organization has been recognized by SmartCEO for its commitment to employee health and wellness.
“National Aquarium is serious about creating programs that provide employees with the resources they need to enrich their well-being,” says Jamie Nespor-Zawmon, president of SmartCEO. “SmartCEO is thrilled to shine a spotlight on the companies that are leading a movement toward healthier and happier workplaces.”
The Aquarium offers an innovative Watershed Wellness program, using a point-based system to reward employees for healthy behaviors and preventive care actions. The program is tailored to meet each employee’s unique health needs and match their learning styles. Since the launch of Watershed Wellness in 2013 program participation has nearly doubled.
“Like a healthy environment, a healthy workplace fosters an energetic, thriving population. Our Watershed Wellness program is an integral part of our commitment to being a great place to work,” said John Racanelli, CEO of the National Aquarium. “By actively promoting wellness, we support our employees in making positive choices for their health, both at home and at work.”
Collectively, this year’s award finalists and winners generate more than $373 million in annual revenue and employ more than 18,000 individuals.
