Saturday, November 9, 2019, 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The National Aquarium is proud to partner with the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts for Brilliant Baltimore, a vibrant, family-friendly ten-day festival combining two of our city's marquee events: Baltimore Book Festival and Light City. This new super festival will illuminate the city with literature, ideas, world-class light art installations and live performances from November 1 through 10, 2019.
During the festival, the National Aquarium's campus will come to light with installations around our buildings in Gunther Circle at our Pratt Street main entrance, on Pier 4 at the dolphin fountain, the back of Pier 4, the Pier 4 to Pier 5 canal, and on the Barnes & Noble bridge to Pier 5.
We are also pleased to present two literary author events as follows:
What the Eyes Don't See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance and Hope in an American City
When: Saturday, November 2 at 12 pm
Where: Literary Salon at Columbus Center
Pediatrician and author Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha will discuss efforts to reveal, publicize and fix Flint, Michigan's water crisis. Aquarium experts will be present during her book signing to talk about how communities can take action around environmental justice issues.
Olinguito, from A to Z!: Unveiling the Cloud Forest
When: Sunday, November 3 at 1 pm
Where: Pratt Library Children's Stage at West Shore Park
Author and illustrator Lulu Delacre will share an interactive presentation in celebration of the fall season of the National Aquarium and Pratt Library's Read to Reef book club. Following the performance, explore more about the wonders of the aquatic world with Aquarium educators.
Visitors are encouraged to visit downtown throughout the festival which has been reoriented to allow for earlier visitation before the end of daylight saving time. Art installations will now illuminate at dusk and remain active until 10 pm daily.
As you explore, look for installations and author events focused on sustainability and conservation. Then, come inside and visit the Aquarium throughout the festival to learn how you and your family can get creative in finding new ways to live sustainably!
