Every month, our conservation team removes Biohut from the Inner Harbor to take inventory of the urban wildlife utilizing the mini-ecosystems in these artificial oyster reefs. More than 17 different species have been documented through the Biohut program, including grass shrimp, blue crabs and American eels.
At the Biohut inventory event, guests are welcome to watch the National Aquarium conservation team empty Biohut and document the species that are present. For safety reasons, guests may not participate in the event, but can enjoying watching and learning about what lives in the Inner Harbor, and how our Biohut program is helping to restore habitat for local wildlife!
