Virginia Beach Dune Restoration Planting

Sunday, October 20, 2019, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Planting grasses on a dune

Naval Air Station Oceana – Dam Neck Annex
Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451

Help the National Aquarium restore valuable sand dunes in partnership with the Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic and the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center.

Sand dunes act as natural barriers, protecting land by preventing erosion and absorbing wave energy. Without this protection, soft coastline would rapidly disappear. We need your help to plant native dune grasses and restore habitat for local wildlife while protecting the shoreline.

Preregistration is required for this event. Due to security restrictions because we are working on a naval base, personal information will be required as part of the registration process. Volunteers must register AND provide all necessary security information before 4 pm on October 7, 2019. Participants must be at least 10 years old; volunteers under 18 must be supervised by an adult. Please contact or 410-659-4249 for more information.
