Happy Birthday, Spirit!

The National Aquarium is celebrating a very special birthday! Spirit, a female bottlenose dolphin born at the Aquarium on April 13, 2001 is 14 years old today!

Spirit has a very playful nature and loves to learn new behaviors! Currently, she’s working on a tail walk behavior, where she moves upright and seems to “walk on water.” This behavior demonstrates how powerful a dolphin’s tail is. Dolphins can support their entire body weight on just their fluke. This is especially impressive considering that last week Spirit weighed in at 446 pounds!

Join us in wishing Spirit a very happy birthday!
