Government Affairs Update: 90 Days in a New Annapolis

The 435th Maryland General Assembly was gaveled into session this afternoon at noon.

The new term marks significant change in the State’s capital with a new administration in the second floor of State House, 60 new members of the House of Delegates and 12 new members of the Senate. 

While 3,000 pieces of legislation are expected to be filed and heard over the next 90 days, the budget – which faces a predicted $750 million shortfall for Fiscal Year 2016 – will serve as the dominant issue. Other issues to watch include a debate over the State’s stormwater remediation fee, rules limiting the use of phosphorus proposed by the outgoing Governor and corporate income taxes.
