Read a Book Day rolls around every year at the start of the new school year. With the school year up and running again, so is the National Aquarium’s Read to Reef book club, in partnership with the Enoch Pratt Free Library! This season of Read to Reef kicks off on Monday, October 1, 2018.
By reading five or more aquatic- or conservation-themed books, Baltimore-area students in fifth grade and younger can earn up to four tickets to the National Aquarium. To start, students must visit any Enoch Pratt library branch and show their library card to receive a Read to Reef bookmark. After that, students can dive into five selections from the collection of aquatic- or conservation-themed books on the Read to Reef list! Students can also ask their librarians for suggestions.
After the reading fun has wrapped up, students can bring their completed bookmarks to the National Aquarium’s ticket center through December 29, 2018, to exchange it for up to four admission tickets to use that day.
Since Read to Reef’s launch in 2016, more than 7,000 Baltimore-area students have read more than 35,000 books through the program! Last spring alone resulted in over 8,000 books read. As the fall season rolls around, we hope to have even more Baltimore-area students make the connection between reading and the aquatic world!
