Marketing - Public Relations/Social Media Internship

Job Description:

The selected Public Relations and Social Media intern(s) assist the Marketing Department with public relations and social media communications.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with writing, proofreading and distributing press materials (i.e. press releases, calendar listings, media advisories, fact sheets, etc.)
  • Assist with the coordination of media visits to the Aquarium (i.e. escorting film crews, arranging staff interviews, managing photo shoots, etc.)
  • Assist with content creation for social media (i.e. blog posts, photos of new animals/exhibits)
  • Fulfill media requests for press kits, photos and information Assist with planning and facilitation of special events Research, as necessary
  • Assist with the maintenance of media archives and clippings Join the Media Relations team for meetings and special events
  • Complete special projects as assigned


  • Must be able to present writing samples and references.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to operate within Microsoft Office systems.
  • Must be self-motivated and have sharp attention to detail, ability to work independently or as part of a team, flexible personality, sense of humor, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term.
  • Preference is given to those with social media/PR experience for an organization
  • Preference is given to juniors and seniors.
  • Open to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in public relations, communications, English or a related field from an accredited college or university.
